Castaways Yacht Club is a unique marina. It is a concierge operation where the excellent staff will provide virtually any service one desires. This extends to repairs, cleaning, equipment purchase, and fueling the boat in the owner’s absence. Castaways’ physical plant is impressive. It has roomy slips, a large lift, a gas/diesel dock, pool and restaurant. It is located behind Davenport Neck and therefore protected from storms. Indeed, I understand it weathered Hurricane Sandy without sustaining any damage. Overseeing the operation is the owner, Bill Michaelis. He is at Castaways seven days a week and strictly supervises the highly competent operation. He is also absolutely honest, a rare commodity these days. During my 18 years of boating on Long Island Sound, I have seasonally rented slips at Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, and Three Mile Harbor. Frequently, I have rented at different marinas simultaneously. I can honestly say that Castaways is the best marina I’ve been in.
